Candidates can take PRINCE2 training courses via one of AXELOS' Accredited Training Organizations (ATOs) or self-study for all the certification levels. Prices for training courses are set by the ATOs so will vary.

See our Training section for more information.

Update to PRINCE2 Best Practice Guidance

In 2017, AXELOS revised the PRINCE2 guidance and certification scheme. For more information on the new version of the certification see our PRINCE2 2017 page.

From 1 January 2018, all English versions of the Foundation and Practitioner exams will be based on the 2017 edition. In addition, from 31 December 2019 the 2009 version will no longer be available in Danish, Dutch, French, German, Norwegian and Polish as PRINCE2 2017 has now been translated into these languages.

PRINCE2 2009 in English was retired in 2018.

See our PRINCE2 2017 certifications section for details of how to find and take training in PRINCE2 2017.

PRINCE2 Professional certification

AXELOS retired the PRINCE2 Professional qualification at the end of 2017, so candidates can no longer attain this level within the PRINCE2 certification scheme. However, the certification remains valid and current holders can continue to describe themselves as PRINCE2 Professionals.

PRINCE2 2009 Foundation Examination

PRINCE2 2009 Practitioner Examination

PRINCE2 Agile Examination

PRINCE2 2009 Practitioner Re-Registration Examination

There are two routes towards obtaining the PRINCE2 certifications - you can sit the exams at the end of a training course with an Accredited Training Organization (ATO), or study privately and then book the exam without a training course via PeopleCert, our PRINCE2 Examination Institute.

Costs of PRINCE2 Training

Each of our ATOs sets their own prices for the different courses they deliver, so this will vary depending on the organization you choose.

For details of training courses, use our search facility to locate a training provider.

Route to certification

You must pass the Foundation examination before the Practitioner examination, either on the same day or separately.

If you have previously passed the Foundation examination or one of the certifications approved as prior learning, you qualify to sit the Practitioner examination without needing to re-sit the Foundation.

Read our guide (PDF, 91KB) to which certifications are now recognized as approved prior learning for the PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification.

If you sit the Foundation exam only, and pass, you will receive a Foundation examination certificate. However, if you sit both the Foundation and Practitioner exam on the same day, and pass both, you will receive a Practitioner examination certificate only.

PRINCE2 Agile

From 1 January 2018, individuals who hold PRINCE2 Foundation (or higher), Project Management Professional® (PMP)*, Certified Associate in Project Management® (CAPM)*, and IMPA Levels A,B,C and D® (Certified Projects Director) certifications are able to take PRINCE2 Agile examination.
