PRINCE2 2017 Update – Training the Trainers

PRINCE2 2017 Update – Training the Trainers

What happens when you introduce the new PRINCE2® 2017 update to experts responsible for training and developing PRINCE2-certified project managers?

It’s never easy to predict how people will respond when best practice guidance undergoes a change. So, we were keen to hear trainers’ opinions about it at the recent 'Trainer Readiness' sessions held in four countries around the world.

However, as one of the people at AXELOS responsible for ensuring trainers are fully prepared for the PRINCE2 2017 update, I’ve been delighted by the positivity among the accredited training community and the enthusiasm for the training sessions and, most importantly, the changes that PRINCE2 has undergone.

Training Sessions

India training sessionAlthough we have already received much trainer and consultant feedback for the new AXELOS best practice manual, these training sessions were the first fully-fledged outings for the PRINCE2 2017 update, complete with more than 250 trainers sitting the new Practitioner exam.

Ultimately, the training sessions – in London, Germany, India and Australia – were about getting training organizations ready to deliver the new PRINCE2 courses when the guidance becomes available next month and the exams soon after that. And this meant asking trainers directly: “Have we got this right?” The initial feedback from our trainer cohort was generally positive and some of the comments included that it was simpler and more logical to navigate the guidance and the exams, while the new layout of the book was well received and the new emphasis on tailoring seen as a positive step.

One delegate, Norma Hart of Knowledge Academy, said: “This new format places much more emphasis on understanding PRINCE2 – a definite improvement” and Farhad Abdollahyan of The United Nations Office for Project Services (UNOPS), added: “The exam has improved and is logically more convenient for the candidate".

However, trainers around the world have also given us some useful feedback that will enable us to make furtherAustralia training session improvements, such as revising underperforming questions and finalizing pass rates. We’ll share this with them towards the end of April to ensure the highest quality of exam papers are delivered to candidates.

We are delighted that so many training partners took part in the sessions; we’re also very happy with their willingness to provide valuable feedback and excited that the “go-live” date for the PRINCE2 2017 update’s new book and exams is fast approaching.

Helping to prepare the trainers is a key milestone on the pathway for any new, AXELOS best practice guidance. And it’s a vital two-way communications process, helping us to develop and refine the biggest evolution in PRINCE2 in almost a decade.
