The fast-evolving concept of Service Integration and Management (SIAM) is covered in a new series of white papers from AXELOS.
The first of these, An Introduction to Service Integration and Management and ITIL®, explains what SIAM is, what it can do and how IT service management (ITSM) professionals can use it alongside ITIL to produce benefits and add business value.
SIAM is an adaption of ITIL and this publication shows how ITIL is key to its successful application. Though not a process, it focuses on the delivery of services in a multi-supplier environment.
Author, Kevin Holland, an experienced service management practitioner and ITIL Master, says:
"SIAM is a way to provide consistent governance, assurance and management of multiple suppliers of IT services, internal and external.
"It ensures that all parties understand their roles, responsibilities and can deliver and be accountable for outcomes. This needs a re-focusing of core ITIL principles."
This white paper explains the full benefits of SIAM, including how it can minimize the risks in multi-sourced approaches and support the development of supply chains into supply networks. It also addresses a number of challenges in planning and designing SIAM, such as misconceptions about what SIAM is, where it is needed and how ITIL applies to it, and provides practical guidance on making SIAM work using ITIL best practice frameworks.
