AXELOS has highlighted Southeast Asia as a region for major growth in IT Service Management (ITSM) as organizations continue to increase spend on enterprise IT.
The region has seen significant economic growth in recent years. In 2015 the ten countries which make up the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) had a combined nominal gross domestic product (GDP) of more than US$2.2 trillion. The growth is set to continue, with analysts Gartner predicting that enterprise IT spending in the region will total $62 billion by 2018*.
The economic growth is matched by demand for ITIL®, the most widely adopted service management framework, which is already used by thousands of organizations worldwide. Since 2013 there have been more than 185,000 ITIL exams taken across Asia, second only to Europe, where there were 228,000 exams during the same period.
The use of ITIL is highlighted in a new AXELOS case study outlining the work of the IT department at the Ho Chi Minh Securities Corporation (HSC), a leading professional securities and brokerage firm in Vietnam. The HSC IT department consists of 20 members divided between business analysis - converting business requirements into technology solutions - and operations – managing IT availability, capacity, continuity and security.
“There are very high expectations of the IT department,” explained HSC Head of IT, Anh Diep. “We wanted to be sure that, before the business took up any big challenges, we were certain we could offer a stable platform that was ready for any eventuality. We were not really sure what methodology or framework to use, so we decided to take time to explore our options, working out which would be most appropriate for our IT environment and priorities.”
HSC selected ITIL and immediately trained and certified the whole IT team up to ITIL Expert level.
Anh said: “On reflection, this was pivotal to the success of the initiative. Everyone was on the same page, speaking the same language, and as such we became confident that we could continue this journey on our own. The business has acknowledged the more robust and reliable support they have been getting from the IT team once we’d established the aforementioned ITIL processes.”
Kaimar Karu, Head of ITSM at AXELOS, said: “For companies to succeed they need to have knowledge of the best possible IT Service Management practices. The HSC case study is a great example of how ITIL is helping businesses and individuals across the globe work more efficiently and effectively. We expect the growth of ITIL to continue across Southeast Asia as the region’s economy – and reliance on enterprise IT – flourishes in the coming years.”
